Recowall™ – New Altro Whiterock™ Recycling Scheme
Altro , in partnership with VEKA Recycling, are delighted to announce the launch of the UK’s first
wall cladding recycling scheme, Recowall, which is unique in the PVC wall cladding sector.
The Recowall scheme is completely free of charge and as well as being environmentally friendly, participants benefit from compliance with Site Waste Management legislation and receive a certificate of commitment to recycling which can offer contractors a tangible competitive advantage when tendering for projects. It also offers significant cost savings as installers no longer have to pay to send offcuts to landfill.
Tracy Perry, Altro’s Environmental and Sustainability Advisor comments: “This is a very exciting step for Altro and the wall cladding industry. Previously, it was thought to be impractical and impossible to recycle wall cladding on a small scale due to the large volumes required by recyclers and the use of lead or tin based stabilisers within the products. However, Altro Whiterock ™ products do not contain these ingredients, so by working in partnership with Veka Recycling we are able to offer our customers a collection scheme which not only offers them a competitive advantage, but helps us all achieve our sustainability goals by diverting a significant amount of PVC from landfill every year.”
Recowall is the latest initiative in Altro’s ongoing sustainability programme and follows a number of recent advances such as the world’s first and only in-house safety flooring recycling system, increasing the recycled content of its products and the launch last year of Recofloor, a safety flooring recycling scheme in conjunction with another flooring manufacturer.
How it works
• Recycling bins are now located at ten Altro Whiterock Premier Installer sites around
the UK
• Contractors can deposit clean, adhesive-free off-cuts and thermoformed corners
from site
• The waste will be collected FREE of charge, processed down, palletised and
recycled back into content for other PVC products
